Gionee Steel 5 is the successor of Steel 3, launched back in 2017. The Steel 5 comes with significant upgrade over the predecessor since there about 3 years gap between the two device. For instance, the For the Steel has 6.22-inch HD+ display, with 720 x 1520 pixels resolution. It has a Waterdrop notch overhead, housing the front facing camera sensor.
Specification wise, you are getting an octa-core Mediatek MT6763 Helio P23 CPU clocked at 2.0GHz, along with Mali-G71 GPU. The device is available in two storage options of either; 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage, or 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage, with storage expansion options on both sides. Aside the altered rear panel design, the Steel 5 looks a lot like the recently announced Gionee K3 both in specifications and features.
Coming to the camera department, you are getting a dual rear camera setup, comprising of a 12-megapixel main sensor, featuring PDAF, f/2.0 aperture, and a 2-megapixel secondary sensor loaded with AI features. At the front, there is a 13-megapixel selfie sensor with 1080p video recording and AI faceID.
Somehow, something important is missing on this smartphone. Yes, the device does not have support for a fingerprint scanner. But, has dual SIM slots, with 4G VoLTE network support on both SIMs, fueled by a large 5000mAh battery that charges via a USB Type-C interface, and runs on Android 9.0 (Pie) out of the box. Other key specifications and silent features of the Gionee Steel 5 are detailed in the table below.
